San Diego-Playing its 10th consecutive match on the road this season, the San Jose State volleyball team fell at #23 San Diego, 25-13, 25-12, 25-19, Saturday afternoon in a match at the USD Invitational.
Taylor Japhet led the Spartans in the match with six kills. Courtney Zellmer added four kills, three digs and a block assist. Kylie Miraldi and Sarah McAtee each had four kills. Caitlin Andrade recorded 22 assists, while Thao Pham led the Spartans with 10 digs.
"We did not play well this weekend," said Spartan head coach Oscar Crespo. "We need to play less streaky and make fewer errors. The competition we have faced the past 10 matches have gotten us ready for conference play. We just need to play well, minimize our errors and control the ball to be successful."
San Jose State now opens the home portion of the schedule next week with the first two Western Athletic Conference matches of the season. The Spartans host Idaho on Thursday at 7 p.m., and Boise State next Saturday at 1p.m. Both matches will be played at Spartan Gym, located on the corner of 4th and San Carlos Streets.
"It will be nice to be home and open the WAC season at home," said Crespo. "I know our players are excited to be playing at home next week in a gym that is familiar to the them and in front of friends and family. It means a lot to them."
