Las Vegas, Nev.-The chips did not fall the way the Spartan volleyball team needed Friday afternoon to keep its winning streak alive. San Jose State fell to Xavier 25-14, 25-18, 25-16 at the UNLV Classic.
San Jose State entered Friday's competition with the Musketeers on three-match winning streak after going 3-0 at last week's next SJSU Tournament. The Spartans hit just .133 for the match and recorded one service ace.
Brianna Amian led the team with eight kills and hit .278 (8-3-18) and added six kills. Kylie Miraldi played two sets for the Spartans after missing the past two weeks with an injury. She hit .333 with six kills on 12 attempts and just two errors. Miraldi and Sarah McAtee each recorded three block assists.
Alex Akana added six kills, while Caitlin Andrade recorded 22 assists and seven digs. Katie Turner led the Spartans with 11 digs.
San Jose State, now 4-7 on the season, continues at the UNLV Classic on Saturday with two matches. The Spartans face host UNLV at 12:30 p.m., followed by Cal State Northridge at 4:30 p.m.
