The Spartans used a balance attack in the win as no player had more than eight kills in the match. Taylor Japhet and Savanah Leaf each recorded eight kills, while Kylie Mirladi and Alex Akana each had six kills.
San Jose State also outblocked the Roadrunners, 9-4. Akana led the team with five block assists, while Miraldi had four (one solo, three assists). Japhet and Caitlin Andrade each had three blocks.
Caitlin Andrade led the team with 27 assists and eight digs, while Brianna Amian came off the bench with three kills, five digs and a block. Krista Miller contributed two kills and two digs, and Katie Turner had seven digs.
The Spartans started the match slowly in the first set as the Roadrunners scored the first five points of the match. San Jose State tied the set at 9-9, but CSUB used another 7-1 run to lead 17-10. Down 21-19, the Spartans scored the next five points for a 24-21 lead and won the set 25-22 on a kill by Andrade.
"We started the match slow, but we were able to recover from the slow start to put together a great team effort," said San Jose State head coach Oscar Crespo. "We needed to play together for the win and were steady throughout the match."
