Burke First Setter In Spartan History to Record Triple-Double

Sacramento, Calif. For the first time in school history, a setter has recorded a triple-double as Emily Burke accomplished the feat against Saint Mary’s Friday night at the Sacramento State Invitational.  The Gaels won the match, 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17.

Burke is just the seventh player in the San Jose State record books to record the triple-double.  She had 40 assists, 15 digs and a career-high 10 kills for the Spartans.  The triple-double feat has only been accomplished in 11 matches in school history.

“After starting the week slowly against St. John’s, Emily really rebounded well for us tonight,” said San Jose State head coach Oscar Crespo.  “Emily was very solid for us running the offense and also very useful as an offensive weapon herself.”

Four Spartans recorded double-digit kills in the match, led by Niki Clement who had 14 kills.  She now has 1,045 career kills and needs just one kill to tie Melissa Myers for 10th placed on the San Jose State career kill list.  Kelly Crow and Colleen Burke added 10 kills along with Emily Burke.
