Volleyball Falls To St. John's In Four Games

San Jose - Kelly Crow recorded a season-high 17 kills and hit .341 for San Jose State, but the Spartan volleyball team lost its comeback-bid to St. John’s, 25-16, 17-25, 26-24, 25-17, Monday morning at Spartan Gym.

Crow added eight digs, three block assists and one service ace for the match. Nia Freeman hit .318 with 10 kills on 22 attempts and only three errors and had two block assists and two digs.

A change in setter in game one from Emily Burke to Brittany Collet brought a different intensity to the floor. Collet collected 34 assists and added four digs and two block assists.

Kylie Miraldi made her first collegiate appearance in Spartan Gym and contributed for the Spartans. She led the Spartans in blocking with eight, two solo and six assists. Miraldi added three kills and an assist.

“Kylie and Brittany provided a spark for us off of the bench,” said San Jose State head coach Oscar Crespo. “They ignited a spark on the floor for us and brought our energy level up.”

Others contributing for San Jose State included Niki Clement who had 11 digs, four kills, two service aces and two block assists. Kristal Tsukano recorded a team-best 13 digs, while Brianna Amian had two kills and one dig.

San Jose State travels to the Sacramento State Invitational this weekend for three matches. The team plays Saint Mary’s Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the Spartans face Sacramento State at 12:30 p.m., and Cal State Northridge at 5 p.m. All matches will be played at the Hornet’s Nest on the Sacramento State campus.
