Volleyball Picked Third In WAC Coaches' Poll

Denver, Colo.The 2008 San Jose State volleyball team has been picked third with Idaho by the league’s coaches in the Western Athletic Conference Preseason Volleyball Poll.

The Spartans finished the 2007 season with a 14-15 overall record and advanced to the semifinal match of the WAC Tournament for the second consecutive season.  Senior Colleen Burke was named to the All-WAC first team, while senior Niki Clement was named to the second team last year.

Defending WAC champion Hawaii has been selected first in the poll, receiving eight of the nine first-place votes and 64 total points.  New Mexico State finished second with one first-place vote and 57 points.  San Jose State and Idaho tied for third with 42 points each.

The 2008 WAC season begins August 29 with all nine teams in action. For the first time ever, the WAC Volleyball Tournament will be held in Honolulu on the campus of the University of Hawaii. The nine-team tournament will be held November 20-23.
