San Jose, Calif.--Thelma Dögg Grétarsdóttir, a 6-1 outside hitter from Iceland, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the volleyball program at San José State University beginning with the 2016-17 school year, as announced by Spartan head coach Jolene Shepardson.

Grétarsdóttir plays for both the U17 and Full Icelandic Women's National Team and the U18 and Full Beach Icelandic Volleyball National Team.  She plays for the top team in Iceland's top volleyball league.  Grétarsdóttir played at the 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship and won a bronze medal at the 2015 Games of the Small States of Europe.   She even played with her mother, Gudrún Elva Sveinsdóttir, at the 2014 Iceland Cup final.

Grétarsdóttir recently competed in the 2014-2016 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup in Odense, Denmark.   She was second at The Icelandic 2013 beach volleyball A-League women's division and won the U17 women's division.

"Thelma comes to us with some very valuable international experience and will be one of our most well-rounded players.  Her versatility will allow us to be very creative with our offensive systems.  We anticipate that she'll bring competitive fire to the court and bring great energy to her teammates," said Shepardson.
