March 25, 2016

San Jose, Calif.—Kaitlynn Zdroik, a 5-9 setter from Brentwood, Calif., will join the San José State University volleyball team beginning with the 2016 season, as announced by head coach Jolene Shepardson.

Zdroik graduates from Liberty High School in Brentwood this spring.  She is four-year starter for the Lions volleyball team, starting her freshman year as a libero and then as a setter for the next three years.  She is a three-time first team All-Bay Area Valley Athletic League honoree and an All-East Bay team honoree by the Contra Costa Times.  She has earned Athletic Director, BVAL and NCS Scholar Athlete recognition during her four years.

Zdroik now plays club for Xceleration Volleyball Club.  In 2015, she competed on the NorCal Volleyball Club 17-1 Black team and advanced to the USAV Girls Junior Naitonal Championships in the USA Division.  She also represented the Northern California Volleyball Association Girls 17U High Performance Program at the European Global Challenge Tournament in Croatia in July of 2015 as part of a nine-player team.

In 2014, she played with Pacific Rim Volleyball Academy and was selected as a setter for the USA Volleyball A2 Youth National team.  She trained in Colorado Springs with other players from across the country.

On the beach, Zdroik has won six tournaments including the 2013 15U NCVA Beach Volleyball Championships and was second at the 2014 16U NCVA Beach Volleyball Championships.

“I feel blessed to have locally talented, feisty student-athlete playing for us for the next four years both on the court and in the sand,” said Shepardson.  “Kaitlynn has leadership qualities and a drive inside her like very few people out there.  With her attitude and training at Xceleration Volleyball Club, she will be able to seamlessly move into our team’s culture.”

Outside of school, Zdroik is a Girl Scout Ambassador, organizing and participating in several events including preparing care packages for military members serving overseas, collecting shoes for earthquake victims in Haiti and organizing donations for a local animal shelter.
