Caitlin Andrade, a 5-9 setter from Honolulu, Alex Akana, a 5-11 outside hitter from Honolulu, Taylor Japhet, a 5-11 outside hitter from Grass Valley, and Katie Turner, a 5-7 outside hitter/libero from Tracy, all signed letters of intent to play volleyball at San Jose State.
Andrade and Akana were teammates at Kamehameha High School in Honolulu, where they won four consecutive Division I state championships. Andrade was named the 2008 Honolulu Advertiser State Player of the Year, the 2008 state tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, first team all-state selection, Star-Bulletin All-State/Fab 15 pick and first team Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I All-Star selection. Andrade recorded 25 assists in the 2008 state championship game.
Akana was a first team Honolulu Advertiser All-State selection, an all-tournament selection from the state championships, ILH second team All-Star pick and a Star-Bulletin All-State/Fab 15 selection. Her club team, Ime Ike, won a silver medal at the 2008 Junior Olympics.
Japhet played at Nevada Union High School for the past two seasons and was a teammate of current Spartans Sarah McAtee and Kylie Miraldi. Japhet was a four-year starter at Nevada Union and Roseville High School. She received All-Sierra Foothill League honors for three seasons and was a first team Sacramento Bee All-Metro team selection. Japhet helped Nevada Union win its seventh consecutive Division I section title in 2008, the only team to accomplish this feat.
Turner was a four-year starter at Tracy High School. She was the 2008 San Joaquin Athletic Association Most Valuable Hitter and a three-time first team all-league selection.
