San Jose, Calif.--Hanah Blume and Sarah Griest recorded double-digit kills for San Jose State, but #10 Colorado State hit .368 as the Rams won the Mountain West match 3-0 (27-25, 25-14, 25-15) Thursday night at The Event Center.
Blume led the Spartans with 11 kills on 34 attempts and just four errors. She also had five digs in the match. Griest added 10 kills as she hit .438 for the match (10-3-16) and led the team with four blocks, two solo and two assists.
Other Spartans contributing included Michaela Leonard with 34 assists and three digs, Mary Alice O'Reilly with nine kills and three block assists, Lauren Jacobsen with 11 digs and four kills, Cori O'Donoghue with eight digs and Sydney LaFollette with three kills and two blocks.
San Jose State played with the Rams in the first set, tying the score seven times. Down 24-22, the team rallied to tie the set at 24-24 on a Jacobsen kill and at 25-25 on another Jacobsen kill. The Spartans came out of the first set hitting .359.
The second and third sets were a different story as the Rams showed why they are still undefeated and Mountain West Champions. Colorado State hit .382 and .455 in the final two sets, while the Spartans hit .143 and .038 respectively.
San Jose State plays its final home match of the season this Saturday night against Wyoming. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. Prior to the match, Spartan seniors Hanah Blume, Brittney Diffinè and Sarah Griest will be honored.
