San José, Calif.-- Nandyala Gama again led the Spartans in kills, but Utah State swept the San José State volleyball team 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-18) Saturday night in a Mountain West match at Spartan Gym.
Gama led the team with 11 kills, followed by Tyanna Roy with seven. Sara Hibbs led the Spartans with five block assists, while Yavianliz Rosado had a team-best 12 digs. Allison Meehan just missed her sixth double-double of the season with 19 assists and nine digs.
The Spartans hit just .065 for the match and were outblocked by Utah State 11-7.
Utah State won the first set 25-19 and hit .316 during the set compared to .026 for the Spartans. Trailing 15-9 in the second set, the Spartans went on a 5-1 run to get to 16-15. The Spartans got within one again at 19-18 but could not take the lead as the Aggies won 25-18.
The third set found the score tied nine time and five lead changes between the two teams. Down 11-8, San José State rallied to tie the score at 11-11 on an Aggie hitting error. The Spartans could not take the lead and eventually fell to Utah State 25-18.
San José State plays its next three matches on the road beginning next Thursday, November 13 at San Diego State, followed by UNLV on November 15, and at #10 Colorado State on November 19. The Spartans play the final home match of the season against Wyoming on Saturday, November 22, and finish the year at Nevada on November 25.
