Reno, Nev.— Hanah Blume led the Spartans with 14 kills and hit .481 to help lead the San José State volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 28-26) win at Nevada Saturday night in a Mountain West match.
Blume led all hitters with her 14 kills and hit .481 for the match with 27 attempts and only one hitting error. She added six digs and a block assists for the match. Blume now needs just four digs to reach 1,000 for her career and 23 kills to reach 1,000 kills.
“I am really proud of the way Hanah is playing right now and the leadership she brings to our team,” said Spartan head coach Oscar Crespo. “Her play helps fuel the play of the rest of our team.”
Mary Alice O’Reilly added 11 kills on a .304 hitting night. She also had three blocks, one solo and two assists in the match. Sarah Griest added seven kills, hit .545, recorded a team-best four service aces and had a team-best four block assists.
Michaela Leonard added 41 assists, two aces, two block assists and three digs in the win. Lauren Jacobsen added seven kills and two blocks, while Tyanna Roy had four kills and three digs. Cori O’Donoghue had eight digs, while Kiley Pieper added six.
“We played really well the first two sets and had to do a little catch up in set three,” said Crespo. “We came through with some key kills and got some plays to go our way.
“Mary Alice and Sarah had great play for us. Michaela ran our offense very well tonight and showed good leadership on the floor.
After winning the first two sets, the Spartans found themselves down 13-10 in the third set. The two teams battled back and forth before the Wolf Pack took a 24-23 lead. San José State fought off two Nevada set points with kills by Roy and Blume and won the match on an O’Reilly solo block.
San José State returns home next week for two matches. The team hosts San Diego State on Thursday, November 7 at 7 p.m., and UNLV on Saturday, November 9, at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at The Event Center and can be seen at www.sjsuspartans.com/videos.
