San Jose, Calif.-- Three Spartans recorded double-doubles, and the team had a season-high 13 blocks. But the San José State volleyball team could not hold off second-place Fresno State Friday night as the Bulldogs won 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-13, 15-12) in a Mountain West match at The Event Center.
Hanah Blume led the trio of double-double players with 12 kills and 17 digs, her 14th double-double of the season. Lauren Jacobsen added 12 kills and 10 blocks, while Michaela Leonard had 41 assists and 11 digs.
Mary Alice O'Reilly led the Spartan hitters with 15 kills and added four blocks. Sarah Griest recorded a career-best eight blocks, one solo, seven assists, to lead the team. Tyanna Roy added six kills and four blocks. Cori O'Donoghue had 11 digs and two service aces.
San José State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, winning the sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-23. The team had 10 blocks after the first two sets but recorded three in the final three sets. Fresno State came out of the 10-minute intermission hitting .414 in the third set to win 25-18 and won the fourth set 25-13 and the fifth set 15-12.
