San Jose, Calif.—Hanah Blume and Lauren Jacobsen each recorded a double-double for the San José State volleyball team, but the Spartans fell to New Mexico 3-1 (25-13, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23) Saturday afternoon in a Mountain West match at The Event Center.
Blume recorded her 12th double-double of the season with team-bests of 13 kills and 14 digs. Jacobsen had her third double-double of the year with 11 kills and 12 digs. She added a season-high three block assists for the Spartans.
Mary Alice O'Reilly recorded a team-high six block assists and had nine kills in the match. Megan Powers came off the bench for San José State and recorded six kills and four block assists. Cori O'Donoghue had a team-high 14 digs for the match.
After dropping the first set 25-13, San José State bounced back in the second set, taking a 9-8 lead on a Jacobsen kill and never looked back to win 25-18. The Spartans stayed close in the third set, tying the set at 13-13 on a Jacobsen ace and 16-16 on a Jacobsen kill. The Lobos then took the lead for good and won 25-21.
The fourth set found the teams with four lead changes and 11 tied scores. The Spartans led 19-16, but New Mexico scored four of the next five points to tie the match at 20-20. The Lobos then scored five of the next eight points to win 25-23.
San José State travels out of the Pacific Time Zone next week for the first time since the first weekend of the season. The Spartans play at Wyoming on Thursday at 7 p.m. MDT, and at Colorado State on Saturday at 1 p.m. MDT. Both matches can be seen live on the Mountain West Network.
