Fresno, Calif.-- Hanah Blume hit above .300 for the second consecutive match, but the San José State volleyball team fell at Fresno State, 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-19), Friday night in a Mountain West match at the Save Mart Center.
Blume led all Spartans hitters with 11 kills. She hit .308 for the match with 26 attempts and just three errors and added seven digs.
Mary Alice O'Reilly and Lauren Jacobsen each recorded nine kills, while Tyanna Roy had eight kills as she hit .312 (8-3-16). Jacobsen and Cori O'Donoghue each recorded a team-high 10 digs, and Michaela Leonard had 40 assists and seven digs.
The Spartans fell behind 0-2 for the second consecutive night, but could not rally in the third set as the Bulldogs hit .317 for the match. San José State led 12-8 before Fresno State scored nine of the next 10 points to take a 17-13 lead and win the set 25-19.
"We need to bring tenacity and consistency to floor and keep it throughout the match," said Spartan head coach Oscar Crespo. "Last night we created our success on the court in the final three sets. Tonight, we had a lead in the third set but were not successful in our passing or blocking and let the lead slip away."
San José State now plays a non-conference match at CSU Bakersfield Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.
