Gold Wins 2-1 Over Blue At Volleyball Scrimmage Saturday

The Gold team was victorious, 2-1, Saturday as the San José State volleyball team held a Blue vs. Gold scrimmage inside Spartan Gym to end the first week of practice for the 2016 season.

Gold, coached by head coach Jolene Shepardson, won the three-set match 25-22, 19-25, 15-12.  Spartans fans got to see freshmen Thaliana Grajeda, Latahevai Lousi and Thelma Grétarsdóttir on the Gold team.  Grajeda led the team with 12 kills.  Luiza Andrade and Jamie Hirai continued to show off their defensive skills with 14 and 10 digs respectively for Gold.

The Blue team, coached by Aaron Shepardson and Ian Choi, was led by returners Hana Tresnáková with 13 kills and 10 digs and Giulia Gávio with 10 kills, nine digs and two blocks.  Spartans fans got their first look at the Blue team newcomers - Kaitlynn Zdroik, Kamille Williams, and Ciara Reistad.



Next week begins the second week of practices for the Spartans. School starts on Wednesday, August 24, and two days later, San José State hosts the Spartan Invitational, August 26 and 27, inside Spartan Gym.  Admission is free for all matches.
