Volleyball Opens 2016 With 3-0 Sweep Of Providence

Summer Avery led all Spartan hitters with eight kills in front of a lively Spartan Gym crowd.

2016: Played in 30 matches and 102 sets...averaged 2.09 kills and 0.62 blocks per set…season-best 15 kills in home matches against Nevada and San Diego State...hit a season-best .429 against Nevada (15-3-28) and .387 versus San Diego State (15-3-31)... added 14 kills at Utah Valley, 10 kills against UNLV, nine kills at Houston, versus Long Beach State, at Utah State and against Fresno State...eight kills against Southern Utah, Louisiana Monroe and at San Diego State...only assists against Southern Utah and Long Beach State...four digs versus Fresno State and three digs versus Southern Utah and Long Beach State...season-high seven blocks against San Diego State including six block assists...five block assists at Air Force and four blocks against Southern Utah, Houston and Houston Baptist...solo blocks versus North Texas, Cal State Fullerton, San Diego State and at Nevada and New Mexico.

HIGH SCHOOL:  Graduated from Washington High School in Fremont in 2016…four-year letterwinner volleyball for head coach Michael Soltau…first team All-Mission Valley Athletic League…also lettered four years in track and field…was considered one of the top discus throwers in the area…won the discus a the CIF North Coach Championships with a person best 145’3”…won the discus at the 2016 Mission Valley League finals (140’9”)…also threw the shot put.

CLUB:  Played for Encore Volleyball Club on the Navy 18-1 team.
