Ian Choi joins the San Jose State University volleyball program as an assistant coach in the Spring of 2015.

Choi comes to San Jose State after spending the 2014 volleyball season as the volunteer assistant coach at the University of Kansas. He worked primarily with the defensive specialists and liberos and handled many of the day-to-day tasks including team travel and Data Volley stats. Kansas held opponents to just 60 service aces and 0.51 aces per set, one of the lowest totals in Big 12 and school history.

Prior to Kansas, Choi was a head coach at the Austin Junior Volleyball Club for eight seasons (2006-2014). He coached primarily the 17s and 18s and was the 2013 Coach of the Year on the club circuit. His 2013 team finished 11th at nationals and won the Lone Star Regional Championship. The 2014 team placed third at the Pacific Northwest Qualifier.

During his time in Austin, he was also the head coach of the University of Texas Women's Volleyball Club team (2005-2012). Choi was responsible for two competitive teams, serving as the head coach for one and overseeing the development of the second. He coached the team to the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF) national championships in 2006 and 2007, while the 2008 team finished as the runners-up.

Choi also served as a team manager for the Texas women's volleyball team that was a 2013 NCAA Semifinalist and the 2013 Big 12 Champions. He kept statistics during matches using Data Volley and aided in team drills during practice.

A setter on the Texas men's club volleyball team, Choi helped lead the team to an eighth-place finish at the 2005 NIRSA Tournament.

Choi graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor of science degree in applied learning and development.
