San José State University’s freshman long jumper Destiny Longmire is headed to Sacramento, Calif., to compete against the country’s best amateur athletes at the United States of America Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships.
The freshman from Moreno Valley, Calif., will begin the long jump at 11:45 a.m. (PT) at Hornet Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State. She’ll be competing in a field of 16 top amateur long jumpers from around the United States.
"Destiny has had a solid freshman season and this will be a nice challenge for her to go up against some of the best jumpers in the U.S.,” said SJSU director of track & field Jeff Petersmeyer. “I think she's ready to jump far."
Longmire was the 2017 Mountain West outdoor long jump champion with a personal-best 6.39 meters. The distance boosted her all the way up the NCAA ranks to 25th in the country at the time of the jump.
