San José State University women's track record holder Jennifer Beckingham is a Capital One Academic All-District 8 honoree, as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The 2015-16 Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Team, selected from eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Beckingham, a graduate mathematics student, broke two of her own school records in the 800 meters (2:08.23) and in the 1500 meters (4:18.32) during outdoor season. Both of the times qualified inside the NCAA Division I West Region's top-48.
This afternoon, Beckingham will run the 800 and two of her teammates will also be in action at the NCAA Track & Field prelims in Lawrence, Kan. She is the first women's track and cross country athlete to compete at an NCAA's in both sports.
Before her success on the track, the Southampton, England native led the 2015 SJSU women's cross country team in all six meets. She recorded four top-15 finishes including two in the top-10.
Beckingham is one of five District 8 winners from the Mountain West. San Diego State's Ellison Grove, Nevada's Anna DuBois, Utah State's Jodi Williams and Fresno State's Annemarie Schwanz were the other winners.
Beckingham now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected this June.
