Colorado Spring, Colo. --- Following the 2017 Mountain West Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships the league has announced that San José State University's Destiny Longmire is an All-Mountain West honoree.
The news comes days after the freshman from Moreno Valley, Calif., took the long jump crown at the MW Championships with a distance of 6.39 meters. The mark moves her up to 12th in the NCAA West Region, which means she will represent the Spartans at the NCAA Championship West Region Preliminaries on March 25-27 in Austin, Texas.
"We are proud of Destiny's accomplishment and are excited about her chances in Austin," said SJSU director of track & field Jeff Petersmeyer. "Also she qualified for the U.S. Junior Championships in June in Sacramento in both the long jump and 100 meters."
Of the 63 honorees the Rancho Verde High School graduate is one of just seven freshmen to receive an all-conference nod. She becomes San José State's second freshman in the last three seasons to win the long jump at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships and be named all-conference. Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw in 2015 was the first freshman to do it.
