Spartans Compete At Sacramento State Open On Saturday

May 3, 2017

A handful of San José State women’s track & field athletes will compete one last time in the regular season this Saturday at the Sacramento State Open. The meet gives the Spartans an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming Mountain West Championships and perhaps land a qualifying mark in the NCAA Championship West Preliminaries.

Jumpers Cambree Harbaugh and Kelsey Johnson Upshaw will both be in action for the long jump, while Harbaugh is also entered in the triple jump.

Harbaugh has made it to the NCAA Championship Prelims in the long jump in each of the last two seasons. She’ll take another crack at making the West Region’s top-48 on Saturday. Harbaugh is also focusing on improving in the triple jump which she is consistently competing in for the first time this outdoor season.

Johnson-Upshaw who is no stranger to success at the Mountain West Championships – she was the outdoor long jump conference champion in 2015 – will also make a run at the NCAA prelims.

Sprinters Breya Carter, Diamond Tabron and Jayla Williams will also be competing at the Sacramento State Open. SJSU sprinters have been steadily dropping time as the outdoor season progresses and the trio hopes to continue doing just that on Saturday.

Carter will race in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, while Tabron gets set for the 100 and 400-meter hurdles. Williams will join Tabron in the 100-meter hurdles.
