San Jose, Calif. – San José State’s women’s outdoor track and field team will participate in its first competition in program history, the 2014 Johnny Mathis Invitational, Saturday in Cox Stadium on the campus of San Francisco State.
The Spartans will race in the 3000m Steeplechase (10:00 a.m.), 1500m (10:53 a.m.), 100m (12:40 p.m.), 800m (1:00 p.m.) and 200m (1:57 p.m.).
"The team has been training very hard,” said assistant track and field coach Brad Wick. “We have a number of athletes debuting in the steeplechase, which is a challenging and exciting event. In the 1,500, Aylin (Mejia) is looking strong and I expect her to contend for the win in her heat. As a team, we are ready to put up some personal records."
