Las Vegas, Nev. --- San José State Spartans Jade Childs and Kolbi Sims were both top-10 at the conclusion of the heptathlon at the Sheila Tarr Multis hosted by UNLV.
It was the first heptathlon of the outdoor season for the senior Childs who scored 4,826 points for fifth place and the sophomore Sims who ended up 10th with 4,368 points.
"It was a solid opener," said SJSU's director of track & field Jeff Petersmeyer. "It was good to get the ladies ready for the Mt. SAC Relays and California Invitational heptathlon coming up next month."
Childs moved up one spot on the final day of the heptathlon to secure the top-five finish. She was fifth in the long jump and sixth in the javelin throw among the field of 20.
Sims finished in the top-half of the field in both the javelin throw and the 800-meter run, with ninth-place finishes in both.
The rest of the Spartans team will complete the first weekend of outdoor season with a busy day at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational. Live stats for the meet are available via
