The San José State women's track and field team begins the outdoor season this Saturday at the Hornet Invitational in Sacramento, Calif.

"The meet this weekend in Sacramento will be exciting to watch," said Spartans' head coach Jeff Petersmeyer. "We'll get to see Makayla Webb open up in the 400-meter hurdles, and we have some people in the javelin for the first time.  Also, I'm excited to see our freshmen distance runners take the track for their first meet outdoors."
Sprints, distance, jumps and the javelin throw are all on the slate for the Spartans in the outdoor opener. Nicole Iloanya, Kolbi Sims and former Spartan softball pitcher Allison Lang will begin the day at 9:30 a.m. with the javelin throw.
Makayla Webb will be in action for the 100 and 400-meter hurdles. She is also part of the 4x400 meter relay team alongside Caitlin Wilson, Beckingham and Maija Pinkins.
The 800-meter school-record holder, Jennifer Beckingham, will head up the distance group for the Spartans, which is spread throughout the 1500, 3000 steeplechase, and 5000 meter events.
Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw will begin her Mountain West outdoor long jump title defense when she competes in her signature event on Saturday. Iloanya, Cambree Harbaugh, Natalia Gutierrez, Lambert, Ashley Sidhu, and Sims are also geared up for the jumps.
Live stats for the meet will be provided by the host, Sacramento State, on their website, www.hornetsports.com.
