San José State University begins the 2017 Mountain West Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday in Albuquerque, N.M.

The championship begins for the Spartans when Jade Childs and Kolbi Sims compete in the pentathlon which begins at 11:00 a.m. (MT) inside the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Childs reached the podium with a third-place result at last year’s championship when she set the San José State women’s pentathlon record with 3,712 points.

Live video streaming and results for all three days of the championship are available on the Championship Central page at www.themw.com.

JUMPS

The Spartans begin the second day of the championship with the long jump, scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (MT).

Freshman Destiny Longmire extended the indoor long jump school record twice this season. She did it in her first meet as a Spartan with a 5.95 meter jump at the Friday Night Duels, and again with a 5.98 meter result at the Don Kirby Invitational just two weeks ago.

Longmire will be joined in the long jump by Cambree Harbaugh, Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw and Childs. Harbaugh will also take flight in the triple jump alongside Sims.

Sims and Natalia Gutierrez will compete in the high jump together on Saturday, the final day of the championships.

SPRINTS & HURDLES

Qualifying for the sprint events take place on Friday afternoon with finals taking place on Saturday. Childs, Makayla Webb, Sahla Cook and Jayla Williams get things started in the 60-hurdles. Cook and Diamond Tabron will race in the 400-meter dash, while Caitlin Wilson, Tabron and Webb compete in the 200-meter dash.

Longmire clocked the team’s fastest 60-hurdles time during the regular season and she gets going in the championship prelims for that event alongside Carter and Williams.

DISTANCES

Fresh off of an encouraging performance at the Husky Classic the Spartan distance group will be active in the one mile, 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter championship events.

The women’s mile and the 5,000 meters will take place on Friday, with the 3,000 meters taking place at the twilight of the meet on Saturday afternoon.

Jeanette Zambrano and Jennifer Sandoval are both in the 3,000, while Zambrano also runs in the mile and Sandoval will race in the 5,000. Adilene Aldapa completes the distance group and will complete a Spartan trio in the 3,000.
