Women's Track & Field Competes At Ed Jacoby Invite This Weekend

The San José State women’s track and field team continues indoor season this Friday and Saturday at the Ed Jacoby Invite and Multi in Nampa, Idaho. A full slate of sprints and jumps plus two Spartans competing in the pentathlon are on the docket for the team’s second meet of the season.

"We head back to the Idaho Center after a long layoff from the winter break,” said director of track & field Jeff Petersmeyer. “ We have two ladies doing their first pentathlon of the year, Nicole Iloanya and Kolbi Sims.  Last month we got some very good marks in our opener in Nampa and we are interested to see who can step up and compete well this weekend."

Petersmeyer mentioned Iloanya and Sims who will kick the event off in the pentathlon beginning Friday at 2:30 p.m. (MT). Sims is experienced in the pentathlon however it will be the first of Iloanya’s collegiate career.

Women’s field events begin Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. (MT) with the long jump, followed by the high jump (2:00 p.m.) and triple jump (2:30 p.m.).



 The long jump will be SJSU’s busiest jumping event with five Spartans scheduled to compete including Spartan Destiny Longmire. Brittany Brown, Cambree Harbaugh and Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw are competing in both the long jump and the triple jump. Sims and Natalie Gutierrez are slated for the high jump.

Sprints will be happening simultaneously, first with the 60-meter dash prelims at 11:00 a.m. Breya Carter, Madiha Raza and Caitlin Wilson will be competing in the 60 alongside Johnson-Upshaw and Longmire.

Nine Spartans are scheduled to compete in the 200-meter dash, four in the 400 and three in the 60-meter hurdles. Makayla Webb will make her 2017-18 season debut for San José State in the 60-hurdles and is on one of two Spartans 4x400-meter relay teams in competition.
