New Long Jump Record Belongs To Destiny Longmire After Day One At Stanford Invite

March 31, 2017

Stanford, Calif. --- There is a new outdoor long jump school record and it belongs to freshman Destiny Longmire. Her distance of 6.13 meters at the Stanford Invitational, just her second outdoor event as a Spartan, passes teammate Cambree Harbaugh’s 6.00 meter jump from last year’s MW Outdoor Championships.

“It was a little coming out party for Destiny today,” said SJSU Director of track & field Jeff Petersmeyer. “She did really well and I thought the entire group had a good day including the distance group at the SF State meet.”

Longmire, a native of Moreno Valley, Calif., also showed her speed on Friday by qualifying for the finals of the 100-meter dash. The Rancho Verde High School graduate clocked a 12.18 in the prelims to qualify for finals where she ran an 11.88.

Longmire wasn’t the only one to move on to finals as Jade Childs will compete again tomorrow in the 100-hurdles finals. She ran a personal-record 13.91to get there. Kolbi Sims also clocked a personal-record 15.14 in the 100-hurdles.

Just up the freeway at Cox Stadium in San Francisco distances coach Brad Wick was happy with the results at day one of the SF State Distance Carnival.

“We’ve been doing really well in practice and I thought we ran very well today,” Wick said.

Jennifer Sandoval finished the 5000 meters in 16:48.00 which was good for 11th place in a big field of 145. Adilene Aldapa finished 26th with a time of 17:03.24.
A full day at the SF State Invitational is still ahead for the Spartans tomorrow as are a couple of finals at the Stanford Invitational.
