Albuquerque, N.M. --- San José State's Kolbi Sims finished in eighth place in the Mountain West Indoor Championships opening event, the women's pentathlon.

 
Sims finished with 3,530 points, good for eighth place in the field of 17 and one point for the championship team total.
 
"Kolbi didn't have a good day today, but she really came through in her final event to gut out an eighth place finish," said Director of Track & Field Jeff Petersmeyer. "I'm proud of the way she finished considering the first four events didn't go so well."
 
Sims clocked a 2:27.52 in the 800 meters to close the day. She finished in seventh place and received 724 points towards her total.
 
Sims started the day with a 12th-place finish in the 60-hurdles with a time of 9.16. She finished 11th in the high jump, eighth in the long jump and 12th in the shot put.
 
San José State competed for the first time ever in the distance medley relay at the championships on Thursday. Kai Bohannon, Lovenie Dantes, Mikayla Akers and Jennifer Sandoval made up the Spartans' relay team which finished in ninth place with a time of 12:25.58.
