Day One At Armory Track Invitational In The Books

Feb. 3, 2017

NEW YORK --- The San José State women’s track and field team finished the first day of competition at the Armory Track Invitational on Friday in New York. Cambree Harbaugh finished fourth in the long jump finals, and a handful of sprinters went through to semifinals.

“We competed pretty well in the long jump, led by Cambree Harbaugh,” said Spartans’ director of track & field Jeff Petersmeyer. "Then we had three make it to semifinals in the 60-hurdles and 60-meter dash. We have several events to look forward to tomorrow when our distance runners open up their season.”

Harbaugh went 5.65 meters, 5.70 meters and 5.82 meters in her first three long jumps. After a foul, she would reach 5.88 meters on her fifth attempt and that would be good enough for fourth place in the field of 41.

Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw and Destiny Longmire also finished top-10 in the event, both jumping 5.79 meters.

Sprinter Caitlin Wilson clocked a 7.71 in the prelims of the 60-meter dash, which advanced her to the semifinal round. She improved her time in the next round to 7.64.

Makayla Webb in her season debut and Jade Childs both made the semifinals for the 60-meter hurdles. In the prelims, Webb clocked an 8.85 and Childs moved on with an 8.83. In the semifinals Childs finished in 8.83 once again and Webb finished in 8.91.

The meet continues for the Spartans tomorrow with more sprints, jumps and a big day of distances. Follow along with live results provided by Runner Space.
