Flagstaff, Ariz. --- Freshman Destiny Longmire took down the school record in the long jump in her Spartan debut in the Friday Night Duels hosted by Northern Arizona University.

In the San José State women's track & Field team's 2017 indoor season opener Longmire set the new record with a
long jump of 5.95 meters, passing teammate Cambree Harbaugh's mark of 5.90 set at last year's Mountain West Championships - when she was named All-Mountain West for the second-place result.

"It was really nice to see Destiny compete in a Spartan uniform for the first time," said SJSU Director of Track & Field Jeff Petersmeyer. "She had a great opener with the school-record in the long jump and then a really fast 60."

The Moreno Valley, Calif., native then clocked a 7.60 in the 60-meter dash. She finished second only to Arizona's Rachel Johns who ran a 7.57.

Harbaugh had her record broken, but she also beat her personal record with a long jump of 5.93 meters. Later, her farthest triple jump of the night went 11.97 meters, which is the best triple jump mark of her career in a season opener. Wilson was victorious in the field of 33 entries for the 200-meter dashwith a time of 24.85. Wilson was fifth with a 7.66 in the 60-meter dash.

"I thought Caitlin ran well in the 60 and the 200, and it was nice to see a big PR in the shot put for both Jade and Kolbi," Petersmeyer said.

Jade Childs' shot put went 11.86 meters, beating her previous best of 11.49. Kolbi Sims also set a new PR in the shot put with a mark of 10.81 meters.

"It was good to see some of our freshmen get their first experience against good competition," Petersmeyer said. "But since we have been so young in the last few years, it's nice to see them grow up and have a team of mostly upperclassmen."

San José State's next meet is the University of Washington Invitational in Seattle, Wash., on January 26-27.
