Record-Setting Day Yields Seven Wins At Johnny Mathis Invitational

Makayla Webb took first place in the 100 and 400-meter hurdle events on Saturday.

AT SJSU: A high jump specialist ... competed in both indoor and outdoor track and field during her first season with the Spartans in 2014-15 ... has a lifetime best of 180 centimeters (5-foot-10.75) first reached at a 2013 meet in Timaru, New Zealand.

2014-15

Indoor: Competed three times as San José State's lone high jumper … scored for the Spartans with a season-best 1.75 meters at the Mountain West Championship high jump finals … jumped 1.69 meters at both the Armory Collegiate Invitational (1/31) and the NB/Boise Indoor Invitational (2/6).

Outdoor: Competed six times as San José State’s high-jump specialist … advanced to the NCAA West Preliminary Championship in the high jump, becoming one of the first athletes to do so in the short two-year history of the women’s track and field program … her school-record 1.77 meter mark at the Johnny Mathis Invitational (3/21) stood as the qualifying mark for the NCAA West Prelims … clear the high bar at 1.76 meters at the Bulldog Invitational (4/25) … jumped 1.70 meters twice at the Mountain West Championship (5/13-16) and the Longhorn Invitational (5/2) … finished in 40th place with a final mark of 1.68 meters in the NCAA West Prelim Championship high jump.



HIGH SCHOOL: Competed in track and field (Coach Sheila Smidt), volleyball and field hockey at Napier Girls High School in Napier, New Zealand.

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: Finished ninth in the high jump with a clearance of 5-feet-10.75 at the 2014 Australian Championships... Eleventh in the high jump at the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia... Finished first in the high jump at the 2011 Oceania Athletics Championships in Apia, Samoa... Represented New Zealand at the 2009 World Junior Championships in Sodtirol, Italy.
