Tennis Plays In Damp ITA Regional

Stanford, Calif. -- After multiple rain delays pushed some matches back to 9 p.m., San Jose State finally got under way at the ITA Norwest Regional hosted by Stanford on October 22.

Chau Truong got out to a fast start as she beat Noelle Eades of UC Davis 6-1, 6-2. Truong earned the only win of the day for the Spartans.

Sabastiani Leon Chao who was the consolation champion at the Cal Nike Invite earlier this fall season was forced to withdraw due to injury in her match against Stanford's Nicole gibbs.

Olivia Marshall, Anna Guzman, Sandra Florea, and Emily Prescott all lost their opening round matches in straight sets.

In doubles, Leon Chao and Florea teamed up for an 8-2 win in the first round of 64 players, but were later defeated by the same score against Washington's Denise Dy, and Venise Chan.

"Today was tough with the rain delays, but it didn't hold us back from playing hard," said head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. We'll go back out there tomorrow and keep fighting.

Though inclement weather is threatening again, play will resume at the ITA Northwest Regional on Saturday morning.
