Spartans Continue Success At ITA Championship

Stanford, Calif. ---- The San Jose State Spartans continue to succeed on day two of the ITA Northwest Regional Championship. The doubles team of Sabastiani Leon Chao and Erica Medlin won their third round tournament match and paved the way for multiple Spartan wins throughout the day.

The Spartan duo beat Eastern Washington's Rocio Norena and Ryann Warner, 8-0, and will go up against Stanford's #1 Stacey C. Tan and #1 Ellen Tsay in the round of 16.

"Our doubles tomorrow will face the #1 seed and one of the best teams in the country. We are excited about it and we are looking forward to it." said Spartans' head coach Sylvain Malroux.

In the singles consolation play, Julianna Bacelar, Sabastiani Leon Chao, and Margot Charron all won their round of 128 in the consolation bracket and will continue play Sunday afternoon.

"We did a good job understanding how to get better," stated Malroux. "We had some good wins, but most importantly we keep improving every match. We are definitely on the right track."

The Spartans continue match play tomorrow, Sunday, October 21 in hopes of piling up more wins.
