Stanford, Calif. --- The San José State University women’s tennis team continues their winning ways on the second day of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships with the doubles team of Marie Klocker and Gaelle Rey leading the way.
The Spartans duo defeated Pacific’s Hana Ritterova and Cristina Saenz de Buruga, 8-4, in the round of 32. They will go up against California’s team of Lynn Chi and Anett Schutting, #11th ranked nationally, in the round of 16.
Willett defeated Eastern Washington’s Erin Blessings 6-3; 6-1 and Rey topped Saroop Dhatt of Portland 6-3; 6-2.
Truong came on top in her consolation singles match after defeating Andie M. Mouzes of Sacramento State, 6-1; 6-0. Truong later faced Mouzes and teammate Emily McColl as she paired with Justine Deleval, defeating the Sacramento State duo, 8-4.
“So far it has been a great tournament,” says head coach Sylvain Malroux, who seven Spartans have 13 victories in the first two days. “There was a lot of good matches and we have been improving since the beginning of the fall. We still have some good matches to play tomorrow. We had three players reaching the round of 32 yesterday in singles and we still have on doubles team in the round of 16. It looks promising.”
The Spartans continue play Sunday, October 20 at the Taube Tennis Center.
