San Jose, Calif. --- The San José State women’s tennis team travel to Stanford this weekend to compete in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships starting on Friday, October 18 through Tuesday, October 22.
Held at the Taube Tennis Center on the Stanford campus, the ITA Northwest Regionals will host 17 teams including San Jose State, Stanford, Washington, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Portland, Portland State, Oregon, UC Davis, Sacramento State, Pacific, Saint Mary’s, California, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Fresno State, and Cal Poly.
“We had a good first tournament.” said head coach Sylvain Malroux. “These teams are ranked top in the country and we are going up against the best competition in Division I. We have been having hard practices and are excited to see our improvement.”
In last season’s tournament, Sabastiani Leon Chao made it to the round of 16 in doubles competition with partner Erica Medlin, before losing to #1 seeded Stanford duo of Stacey Tan and Ellen Tsay, 8-3.
Tournament play begins at 9:00 a.m. (PT) on Friday. There will be one round of doubles and two singles rounds.
