Moraga Calif. ---San Jose State University's Chau Truong was the lone remaining Spartan and lost in the White bracket singles semifinals of the Saint Mary’s Invitational women's tennis tournament, Sunday, October 16.
On the final day of the tournament, Alice Duranteau of Cal defeated Truong in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Overall the Spartans went 7-10 in singles play for the tournament. Truong accounted for three wins in the championship draw of the White bracket. Alexis Marquez and Isadora Busch each picked up a victory in the White bracket championship draw, too.
Sandra Florea posted a consolation win in a White bracket quarterfinal match. Emily Prescott won once in the Blue singles bracket.
The doubles teams, which did not produce a victory in the Cal Nike Invitational, went 5-6 at Saint Mary's. The team of Erica Medlin/Sandra Florea made it to the White bracket championship semifinal match. The San Jose State teams of Chau Truong/Jessica Willett and Emily Prescott/Alexis Marquez reached the White bracket consolation semifinals.
“It was a good weekend (for us). There are a lot of things we are getting better on,” said San Jose State tennis coach Sylvain Malroux. “It was nice to give some experience to new players and take a full team.”
Up next for the Spartans is the ITA Regional Championships at Stanford set to start, Friday, October 21.
