Berkeley Calif. --- Chau Truong fell short in the Blue singles consolation semifinals, defeated by California's Alice Duranteau in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Overall the Spartans' singles players finished 3-7 in the tournament with Truong and Alexis Marque making the semifinals in their respective brackets.
Head coach Sylvain Malroux thought the weekend was a good start to the fall season.
“This was a great weekend for both myself and the players to see where we are and where we need to be,” Malroux said.
The first-year coach went on to say there is room for improvement and he understands the players better after seeing them compete.
“We can do some work on limiting errors. If we do that and they get beat, it is because the other player was better that day and not a physical or mental mistake.”
San Jose State’s doubles play did not produce a victory in the first tournament of the year.
The Spartans return to action Friday, October 14 at the Saint Mary’s Invitational in Moraga Calif.
