Berkeley, Calif. -- Sabastiani Leon Chao of San Jose State's women's tennis team stood till the end of the final day at the California Nike Invite on September 26.
After getting a free pass through the semi finals stage due to a no-show, Leon Chao went on to face Melissa McQueen of WAC rival Fresno State.
Leon Chao commanded the first set, taking it 6-0. McQueen though battled back and took the second set, 6-4 forcing a super tiebreaker.
Leon Chao prevailed 10-6 in the tiebreaker and stood atop of the consolation bracket at the tournament's conclusion.
"She was awesome out there," said Spartans head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. "I'm very proud of the way she represented our team and school in this tournament."
Leon Chao and the San Jose State women's tennis team are back in action beginning October 8 at the Saint Mary's Invitational tournament.
