Anna Guzman, Sabastiani Leon Chao, and Chau Truong all got a win under their belts in the first day for the Spartans.
Truong, who ended last year's regular season with three straight wins, picked up where she left off with a 6-1, 6-2, win over California's Catie Visico.
While Guzman defeated Maria Meliuk by withdraw due to injury, freshman Leon Chao went the distance to defeat Milica Zivanoc of Sacramento state in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
San Jose State also picked up a win in the doubles competition. The paring of Truong and Leon-Chao were good enough to take down WAC opponent Fresno State's duo of Abby Mary Hayley, and Melissa McQueen, 9-7.
"Sabastiani had a great debut, and it's a successful day to get four wins on the first day of the tournament," said Spartans head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church.
The Cal Nike Invitational held at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts, hosts some of the best collegiate women's tennis the nation has to offer. 10 top-100 singles players and three ranked doubles teams are among the field of 14 schools in the tournament.
"We'll come out here and try to do it all over again tomorrow," said Nguyen-Church.
