Tennis Program Appoints New Volunteer Assistant

Gary Peralta joins the San Jose State women's tennis program this fall as a volunteer assistant coach. He will assist in the recruiting direction of the team as well as giving instruction in the strategic and conditioning aspects of the game.

Peralta is a familiar face to San Jose State. A 1989 graduate with a degree in public relations, Gary was a member of the men's tennis team from 1987-89, and an intern in the Sports Information Department during the summer of 1989.

Peralta's best moments on the tennis team to be his individual victories over Stanford, California, UCLA and Kentucky. He was also a part of the 1988 team that finished second in the conference, and defeated UCLA in a dual match down in Los Angeles.

Peralta trained junior tennis players after his playing days at San Jose State. He was affiliated with the Almaden Valley Athletic Club which has hosted the National Junior Tennis Championships, and was a major location for collegiate tennis coaches to view talent.

Current head coach, Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church has great confidence in Peralta's appointment. "I have a ton of confidence in Gary because of his knowledge of tennis and his passion for San Jose State University. He will be a great addition to our program."
