Sybille Gauvain & Matt Brown Are Student-Athletes Of The Month

Junior pitcher Matt Brown and junior women’s tennis player Sybille Gauvain are the April Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month, presented by O’Connor Hospital.
 
Gauvain defeated the No. 48 player in the country in straight sets to help secure San José State’s 4-0 sweep over UNLV in the Mountain West Championship title match. With the win the Frejus, France native became the 10th player in program history to reach 100-career singles and doubles wins. Gauvain finished the championship with a pair of singles and doubles victories, including a decisive three-set win against New Mexico in the quarterfinals. She finished the month with 5-2 records playing in the #1-singles and #1-doubles position.
 
Brown picked up big wins for San José State against league leading New Mexico and the rival Fresno State. He allowed just one hit in 7.0 innings against the Lobos who came in batting .312 as a team. Brown and the Spartans picked up a 2-1 victory to start an unbeaten weekend against New Mexico. The native of Benicia, Calif., was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week for the stingy outing. Then he turned back nine batters across another seven-inning start in the Spartans’ 6-3 win against the Bulldogs. He finished April with 35 K's in 28.0 innings while holding the opponents to .228 at the dish.
