Spartans Off To WAC Championships

SAN JOSE, CALIF. -- Ninth seeded San Jose State (7-12, 0-3 WAC) will face eighth seeded Utah State (11-7, 0-5 WAC) in the opening round of the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Championship in Boise, Idaho on April 28 at 9:00 a.m.

 

The winner will move on to the quarter finals to face the defending WAC Champion Boise State Broncos (15-7, 5-1 WAC).

 

“We are going in with confidence and are looking forward to competing hard in all of our matches,” said Spartans’ head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church.

 

San Jose State's match will mark the beginning of the tournament which runs until the championship match at 10:00 a.m. on April 30.

 

The Spartans have finished tied for fifth place in the conference championship in their last six appearances.

 

They will head into this year’s tournament following a, 6-1 defeat of UC Santa Cruz to end the regular dual season.
