State Champ Finalist Signs NLI

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Arizona state championship finalist Erica Medlin, also a three-time all-regional team selection, has signed a national letter-of-intent to compete for the San Jose State women’s tennis team beginning in the 2011-12 season.

Spartans’ head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church made the announcement.

“I am confident that Erica will make an immediate impact on our tennis program,” said Nguyen-Church. “She has great talent, work ethic and leadership abilities that San Jose State needs.”

Medlin has a history of making a big impact upon her arrival, as Mesquite High School (Gilbert, Ariz.) jumped from 8-6 to 13-1 her freshman season.

The Mesa, Ariz., native was listed as a breakout player by ESPN Rise Arizona at the outset of the 2010 tennis season.

Medlin reached those expectations as she advanced to the 5A Division I Arizona State Championship as an individual in 2010.

Medlin is set to graduate from Fallbrook High in the spring of 2011 and join the Spartans this fall.
