Klaudia Boczova - WAC Player Of The Year

Denver, Colo. --- The San Jose State women’s tennis team received seven Western Athletic Conference awards at the WAC Tennis Championship banquet for the 2012-13 season.  

Sophomore Klaudia Boczova was named Player of the Year and first-team All-WAC for the 2012-13 season. She is the first San Jose State women’s tennis player to receive conference Player of the Year honors.

Currently ranked at #53, Boczova was nationally ranked for seven straight weeks and is the only WAC player to be nationally ranked for the season. During conference play, Boczova had an undefeated 5-0 record and is 14-3 overall. She was named WAC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week four times this season.

"Having Klaudia as Player of the Year is a wonderful recongition for her and our team," said head coach Sylvain Malroux.  

The doubles pair of Chau Truong and Julianna Bacelar was named first team All-WAC doubles at the #3 spot. Truong and Bacelar posted an overall 13-3 dual record and a 11-2 dual match record. The duo went undefeated in conference match play with their 6-0 record.  

Julianna Bacelar and Sabastiani Leon Chao each received second team All-WAC honors for the season. Bacelar led the Spartans in singles with a 27-6 overall record. Bacelar was 17-2 in dual match play and went 6-1 in conference dual matches at the no. 5 position. Leon Chao had a overall record of 16-13 in singles match play and also went 6-1 in conference match play.

The Spartans' #1 and #2 doubles teams of Leon Chao and Erica Medlin and Boczova and Jessica Willett also received second-team All-WAC honors. With their 13-4 overall record and their 10-2 dual match record, Leon Chao and Medlin went 5-0 in conference match play and have a 10-match winning streak. Boczova and Willett are 5-0 as a doubles team this season.

“It is wonderful to see that our team got so much recognition!Having our top six being awarded either in singles and doubles shows how much we have been improving over the past year. It rewards the hard work they have put in all year long," concluded Malroux.
