Tennis Shut Out In Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii---The San Jose State women's tennis team was handed its sixth WAC loss of the season in a 7-0 shutout defeat to the University of Hawai'i on April 17.

     Chau Truong and Anna Guzman were able to pick up a win in the doubles competition in the number three spot, but the Spartans were unable to win the match point. Guzman and Truong defeated Algae Van den Bergh and Allison Gobel, 8-5.

     In Singles, Jennifer Williams was the closest to winning a set for San Jose State, but she dropped a first set tiebreaker, and lost the match against Alyssa Nafarrete, 7-5, 6-1.

     The rest of the singles lineup for San Jose State: Olivia Marshall, Kerri Kummer, Chau Truong, Sandra Florea, and Anna Guzman all lost in straight sets.

     "We fought hard today, but Hawaii was the better team," said head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church.

     San Jose State is back in action tomorrow as the face New Mexico State beginning at 11:00 a.m. local time in Honolulu.
