HONOLULU, Hi.---Chau Truong and Sandra Florea came up with victories in singles competition, but it wasn't enough in San Jose State's, 5-2 loss to New Mexico State on April 18.
Truong and Florea both took care of their opponents in straight set fashion. Truong defeated Isabela Kulaif, 6-3, 6-2, while Florea won her match against Natalia Salum, 6-4, 6-1.
Olivia Marshall and Kerri Kummer filled spots one and two in Spartans' head coach, Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church's lineup, and both lost by a straight set score, 6-2, 6-2.
Marshall paired up with Anna Guzman in the doubles competition and defeated Ginet Pinero and Natalia Salum, 8-4. The Spartans however were unable to win the match point in doubles.
"Our girls fought hard in today's match, and I'm proud of the way Chau and Sandra played against their opponents," said coach Nguyen-Church.
San Jose State drops to 11-14, 0-7 WAC in 2010 with the loss to New Mexico State. Today's loss also eliminates the Spartans' chance for appearing in the Western Athletic Conference championship tournament. San Jose State will return home for a makeup match against the University of Idaho on Thursday, April 22.
