Spartans Dropped, 6-1

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose State fell, 6-1 in their Western Athletic Conference match against the University of Idaho on April 15 in Fresno, Calif.

The loss drops the Spartans to 6-10 overall and 0-2 against WAC opponents while the Vandals improve to 15-5, 4-2 WAC.

Chau Truong won in both singles and doubles for San Jose State.

First, Truong along with partner Anna Guzman defeated Barbara Maciocha and Natalie Kirch at No. 3 doubles, 8-4. Then, the sophomore beat Silvia Irimescu 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Spartans' only match point of the afternoon.

"Great all-around performance today for Chau," said San Jose State's head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. "She hit the ball well again today like she has almost all season long."

The remaining Spartan singles: Sabastiani Leon Chao, Christine Nguyen, Emily Prescott, Guzman and Sandra Florea all lost in straight-sets.

"Today was another disappointing result," said Nguyen-Church. "I want our team to bounce back hard and compete better tomorrow against Fresno State."

San Jose State will face Fresno State tomorrow, April 16 at 2:30 p.m. PST.
