Santa Cruz, Calif.----The San Jose State women’s tennis team defeated UC Santa Cruz, 6-1, on April 14. Seniors Amber Silverstone, Silvana Dukic, and Sanda Hadzisabic were all honored in their last match before heading out of state to play the remaining two matches of the season.
Dukic defeated Kyla Rowe 6-3, 6-2 while Hadzisabic beat Chloe McHugh, 6-1, 6-2. Silverstone got her 97th career win as a Spartan as she teamed up with Anna Guzman to defeat Chrissy Nichol and Becca Parker in doubles, 8-3. Silverstone currently sits in third place all-time for career wins behind Rochelle Morrison (105), and Ashley Tavita (117).
Megan Kummer and younger sister Kerri, each won their singles matchups in straight sets. Kerri Kummer teamed up with sophomore Olivia Marshall to pick up a win in doubles over Taylor Mannix and Kyla Rowe, 8-2.
“Our team played very well today considering the extremely windy conditions,” said head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. “I’m also really happy that our team was able to win as we honored our seniors in their final match of their careers near the South Bay area.”
San Jose State moves to 11-12 on the year. The team has two remaining regular season matches against Louisiana Tech and Utah State which will be played in Salt Lake City, Utah.
