SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose State was swept, 7-0 by the University of San Francisco on April 13 at the Spartan Tennis Complex in San Jose, Calif.
Sabastiani Leon Chao was the only Spartan to take a USF opponent past the second set.
After dropping the first set, 6-2 to Julia Wartenburger Leon Chao won the second set, 6-3 and forced a super tiebreaker. Leon Chao came up short in the tiebreaker and the match 6-2, 3-6, 10-3.
Three seniors: Anna Guzman, Olivia Marshall and Kalin Eshelman were honored before the match as the 2011 senior student-athletes.
Guzman and Marshall along with the remaining San Jose State singles lineup all were beaten in straight-sets by the Dons.
"I'm disappointed about the outcome of the match but I have to hand it to the girls on our team who put in their best efforts," said Spartans' head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. "I want to congratulate our seniors and thank them for putting in the hard work this season."
The loss drops San Jose State to 6-10, 0-1 WAC on the year. This was the final match of the season at the Spartan Tennis Complex where the team finished 3-4.
The Spartans will face conference foe Idaho in their next match on April 15, then follow up the next day with a match against Fresno State. Both contests will be held in Fresno, Calif.
